VOIP changes more than the way companies communicate
  • 17 Jun, 2020
In an enterprise, the main purpose of introducing any new technology or process is to achieve technological improvement somewhere, how to increase efficiency and increase profits while reducing operating costs. For example, e-mail is used because it is much faster than information transmission through physical paper. Enterprises use computers to simplify work processes, and use CRM and ERP systems to make it easier for employees to manage resources. For small and medium-sized enterprises, using VoIP communication technology is also a good idea. Not only can you save a lot of costs for your company, on the other hand, the VoIP phone system can also easily expand or reduce the size of the phone according to your needs. This means that you can adjust the number and configuration of phones at any time and make budget estimates more accurately.

The principle of VOIP:

VOIP stands for Internet Telephony, Voice over Internet Protocol, by digitizing the voice signal, compressing and packaging it, transmitting it over the network, and then decompressing it to restore the digital signal to sound. VOIP does not use traditional copper wire, but uses the company's existing TCP/IP Internet connection to send and receive messages. VoIP technology converts audio signals from voice to digital data and transmits them to their destination via broadband Internet (such as DSL, fiber optic or cable). In colloquial terms, it is "Internet phone". The telephone line does not use a traditional telephone jack, but plugs into a VoIP terminal device.

Comparison between VOIP and traditional telephone

Compared with traditional phones, the use of VOIP phones is more flexible, convenient and cheaper. What is the root cause of these differences? What is the difference between VOIP and traditional phones?

Traditional telephones use the public switched network (PSTN) to spread voice, while VOIP network telephones convert analog voice signals into digital signals through an Internet telephone gateway (ITG), and then compress and encode them to transmit them in packets. . This compressed voice channel only requires 6.3Kps, and can be used together with other forms of data. Compared with traditional telephones, its voice channel requires 64Kbps, which is ten times that of VOIP network telephones, and it cannot share lines with other data. This is why VOIP network phone rates can be so much cheaper than traditional phones.

VoIP or landline service: what is the best business for you?

When comparing VoIP and traditional landline telephone services, it is important to remember that they are two very different technologies. Although both systems have similarities, there are significant differences between VoIP systems and traditional fixed-line telephone services. But before choosing a traditional landline phone or VoIP phone, please consider the individual needs of the organization. The most important thing is to compare the advantages and disadvantages of the two systems before making a final decision.

In terms of convenience, traditional fixed telephones, which usually run on copper wires, are installed in fixed locations. However, through the ICT system of Yitong Yunke, enterprises can establish grouping and contact virtually from any location by using the designated telephone extension. Use your smartphone outdoors.

Multi-platform business system connection scenario. Etone Cloud VoIP allows migration from different platforms (from desktops and laptops to smartphones). VoIP can be integrated with other systems, such as customer relationship management (CRM) applications, to make it easier for the company’s sales team to access important data during customer service calls. In this way, companies can learn more about their customers and personalize services based on their preferences. In addition, employees can install corporate telephone softphones on their mobile phones, eliminating the need to provide staff with regular office phones and mobile phones.

The last point I have to mention is reliability. In terms of reliability, fixed-line telephone services have a slight advantage over VoIP systems. The traditional telephone line power supply method does not require electricity as power. Therefore, when a power outage or interruption occurs, companies can still use their landline service to make or receive calls. When VOIP loses power or the Internet connection is interrupted, companies will not be able to make or receive calls. The good news is that the infrastructure of the network and electricity supply has greatly improved to this day. Etone Cloud VOIP provides the service of transferring incoming calls to a designated backup number, and transfers it to a designated mobile phone through call transfer.

In 2020, under the circumstance of the market environment, especially the epidemic "black swan", the strategy of most companies may change from "seeking development" to "live". In the new era, more and more companies are more willing to choose VOIP way to downgrade the company's operating costs.
